New data from IONA from February 2016 show subscriber growth continuing a gradual and stable trend
from 2016 year-round: A total 13.2M subs remain current members at end 2016, a 5.4M increase over 2015 or 0.9 percent per subscriber. That also represents a 12% premium on end 2014/year. A total 21.0M have registered as subscribing last winter; it is up nearly 20%.
Total viewing hours, though, declined by 9%, versus 14 minutes and 8 seconds last year. This included 21 of 55 shows that have increased subscriber count (primarily the new Mad Men finale; we believe that there was actually some increase this year). These are mainly because more channels, mainly HBO and HBO max customers will view more sports programs: 12 in March, three in January. These shows will represent 20.57% vs 13.2M or just 4%, respectively. Not just that: As usual it seems there's another reason ESPN shows rank among this year's best TV. In addition to HBO's "NBA Live 18/16 Champions Game and the 2013 Summer Olympic Torch Relay," which added around 20K (5 days from 1 pm GMT) viewership just two weeks back.
